Your first day
Six steps, most of them under five minutes. The longest part is Stripe verifying who you are, and you can do that before the reader even arrives.
You pay the $5 a month when you create the account. The POS app is included in the plan.
Always the same deal
$5 a month, per business
0.4% + 1¢ on top of Stripe
The reader is yours, bought once
Free shipping with a plan
In order. You can do one to three while you wait for the courier.
01
2 minutes
Email, business name, country, then the $5 monthly subscription. The POS app is included.
02
5–10 minutes
Identity and bank details through Stripe Connect. Have a photo ID and your account number to hand.
03
10 minutes
Import a spreadsheet, scan barcodes, or type in the twenty things you actually sell. You can refine it later.
04
2 minutes
On the phone, the tablet, or straight onto the terminal. Sign in with the same account.
05
1 minute
Bluetooth for the Reader M2; Wi-Fi for the WisePOS E and S700. The app walks it through.
06
1 minute
Charge yourself a dollar and refund it. Then sell to somebody real.
Before the box arrives
Verification is the only step with somebody else in the loop. Start it the day you order and the reader will be the last thing you are waiting on.
What Stripe asks for
ID and a bank account
A photo ID, your business details and the account you want paying out to. Requirements vary by country.
How long it takes
Usually minutes
Most accounts verify immediately. Some are reviewed manually, which can take a day or two.
What you can do meanwhile
Build the catalogue
Products, prices and stock can all go in before a reader has ever been paired.
Three ways, depending on what you already have written down.
Fastest
Names, prices, barcodes and stock levels in columns. Export from whatever you use now and import it whole.
Most accurate
Scan a barcode and fill in the price. Quickest route for a shop where everything is already labelled.
Simplest
Twenty items takes ten minutes. Plenty of stalls never need more than that, and you can add as you go.
If verification clears and the reader has arrived, yes. Most merchants sell on the day the box turns up.
Requirements come from Stripe and vary by country. Sole traders are accepted in most markets.
Stripe will tell you what it needs. You can keep building the catalogue in the meantime — nothing else is blocked.
When you create the account: the subscription starts at signup and includes the POS app. It is not tied to your first sale.
There is a quick-start card in the box and guides in the help centre. If you can use a phone, the app will not trouble you.
Order the shop kit and it arrives configured to your account. Everything else is self-serve.
Then the only thing between you and a first payment is a courier.
